as they say...there is an ass for every seat and someone buys a green suit if it sits long enough...not my cup of t but if you like it...that is all that matters at the end of the day
Personally I don't like it. I think it would look better with no color. Again, its personal preference. Just don't settle for something you "think" will grow on you. 9 times out of 10 it won't then you will be stuck looking at something every day you don't like.
I already have made plans with the artist today. Sounds like he is willing to work with me. Should know more middle of this week. I am going to bring one of the tanks home and see how it looks on the bike.
Agree x 10 I won't settle but really want to see it on the bike before I scrap the color. At least I want to give it a chance. If I don't like it then I will change it. Trust me I don't settle on things.
I have seen a bike done with an American flag that was a true ghost image. The airbrush artist painted the flag in color first. Then he went over it with a transparent (think candy) black. To accomplish this, he simply took a small amount of black basecoat and added it to the clear. This was then over reduced and sprayed on top until the flag just about disappeared into the black. When in the sun or direct lighting, the flag seemed to be a black and white version, but it appeared to be about six inches deep into the paint. At other times, it was almost impossible to see. How defined or readily apparent the image is can be controlled by how many coats of trans black is added to the top. It really came out great.
If you don't like it today, it's a good chance you won't like it next year or the year after. I know paint is only "skin deep" but skinning ain't cheap.
I am on the fence with it right now. Tomorrow I am going to pick the tank up from the shop to see how it looks on the bike. I am either going to have him change it back to the original idea or I may decide to actually add more to the graphic and expand on the design with more blue not sure yet. If I have him change the design I am going to offer him additional funding as he did what I specified on the design with the exception of the color. at least that way we can meet somewhere in the middle. I know his time is money! appreciate all the feedback good and bad!
Agree it is something different! I am going to discuss some options tomorrow. I have put a shit ton of thought behind the paint on this. This bike has really grown on me from the complete teardown to rebuilding it section by section. I am very excited to see this bike when I am "done " lol adding to it. But damn can't wait to ride again!
JUST MY OPNION......ANY American flag rendering needs to be red/white/blue. Sorry, dont dig the silver, black thing.
Made my decision!!! Alright, after a long few days of driving my wife crazy and the artist too! I spoke to the artist and told him what I thought of the paint change. I really was on the fence of keeping it or starting all over from scratch. Well I spoke to the artist today and he flat out told me he would do whatever I decided and would sand the entire tank back down and start over... i said I would take the tank home and give it a look on the bike. I have decided!!! I really like the way it looks on the bike. The blue is hard to see until it hits the sun and then it really POPS... and looks good IMHO... it is really a change from alot of the flags I have seen painted and should really look good with the blue Dakota Digital.. cant wait to see the rest of it.. appreciate the feedback... I have attached some new photos that hopefully do it justice..
Hell yeah. You gotta live with it, glad you like it. Its gonna be a sweet looking pit when your done.
Getting ready to leave on Saturday to Gulfport ms. 3 weeks down there so the bikes going to be on hold for awhile. Hopefully the motor will be back from getting the diamond cuts by the time I get back to Cali.
As a military member, wearing the subdued flag had nothing to do with politics or a racial statement. You wore it because you wanted to wear your flag into combat while wearing a CAMO uniform! :flag: Paul, the color scheme looks great, can't wait to see the finished work.:2thumbs:
