I thought it would be interesting to know how many of us did the conversion or are still running on TP parts.

So here a Poll. (It is multiple choice)

Mine has the TP Rocker Boxes with S&S rockers and other stuff in it. When I had them check under warranty, they found the guides worn to limits and changed out everything with new springs, roller rockers, guides, etc but kept the TP Boxes since they were still good. Items that were changed were S&S. Still going strong after 8 years and over 25K since then.

i believe it was '05. there is no confusing the TP with the S&S. the TP is a flat topped with only (4) allen screws holding the covers. the S&S are a much more sculpted cover that is held in place with (6) allen screws.

    That's interesting.
My understanding is it is the misalignment caused by the boxes that is the issue.
How many miles were on her when they did the warranty work?

Could the misalignment be caused by the rocker arms? Would the TP and S&S rockerarms be interchangeable in the TP boxes?

The misalignment is caused because the valve stem protrusion in the S&S heads is far greater than the protrusion that the TP rocker boxes are set up for.
The TP rocker arm shafts will work with the S&S rocker arms. I wouldn't gamble with the TP rocker arms. If you're using cams under .600" lift, by all means use non-roller S&S rocker arms.

My Mastiff is an early 2006 and is all S&S, rock stock and no issues

I'm still running the TP's.....30,000 miles and still ticking along. If I had the cheddar I'd change them out to S&S. I've wanting to do the swap for about 7 years now, just never seem to have the money. I'm sure it will bite me in the butt one day.

Did the conversion at 39,000 miles. Had top end rebuilt and added 585 cam. At 42,000 miles now and bike runs great.

What made you change them out to S&S at 39,000? How was your heads when you made the swap?

Started spraying oil through the gaskets at about 35,000 miles especially at interstate speeds 75-85mph. I had been told that it was the TP boxes by several people. I went ahead and had the top end rebuilt and bored out while it was in the shop. It was NOT cheap but I'm glad now.
My opinion is if it ain't broke don't fix it. If you change out the boxes you know you will want to do more.

I know what you mean about doing more. I want the 585 cam and I need to change out my lifters. Diamond cut would be nice and on and on.....

Should we do a 585 cam group buy?

I am on the fence with changing out the rocker boxes to S&S. Mine are leaking and have been since I picked up the bike last year. I purchased a used set of TP boxes last August because the chrome on mine was bubbling and lifting and didn't realize there is a problem with the TP boxes. That's my fault for not keeping up on the forum. I talked to Curtis today and would like to go with S&S but if the little lady in my life finds out I am going to drop another 1K on it this spring I am literally going to be in the "dog house"! I just called and talked to the shop near me in St. Louis that I'm planning on taking the bike here to soon and he just assured me the TP boxes are fine if you change out the guides. So here again, I am confused as to what I should do. Any and all comment/suggestions are welcome.
