Well, I've been gone a long time, but most all of you know my bike or have seen it in alot of the How-to's on here....Low Down Chop Shop

I'm tossed up, I'm happy and I'm sad! I'm 44 yrs old. My wife bought my 2005 Ridgeback new for me for our anniversary back then. I've paid it off and I NEVER wanted to part with it. I've sunk a ton of cash into it to make it 100% RELIABLE. I would ride it anywhere you asked me as long as it's warm where I'm going.

A few years ago we started In-vitro fertility process and tried twice with no luck. Spent most all I had on that and still paying on some meds till October this year that insurance didn't cover.

We haved changed our minds about Adopting and started the process in January this year. Have paid for most everything cash that we can but when it comes right down to it I'm going to still be $20k+ short.

We got our HomeStudy approval last week and starting to work with adoption agency now on placement of a new born baby and I AM HAPPY AS HELL!!!

Now I'm stuck...I know at the end of the day I won't have time to ride after the little one gets here. I don't really want to sell, but it's really what I have to do to get this money I need. I'm not asking for pitty or sorrow, I'm a grown man that has to sell his toy he loves!

I can assure to anyone that my Big Dog Ridgeback has to be as close to 100% reliable one can get. In the end I just want to sell it for top dollar that it is worth, because it has had every Big Dog issue addressed and I have not had a single hiccup in it over the last 6-8 years....Not one!

There are $1000's, multiple, of parts changed out, upgraded, and extras added and that go with the bike. I have a $1000 set of extra Stainless Creation pipes hanging on the wall that go with it.

    WirePlus electrical upgrade
    Bandit Superclutch & Carrier
    Compufire 40A 3PH Charge System
    XXX Chrome bored carb
    S&S 600 cam
    Supertrapp Mean Mothers pipes
    Custom HD exhaust mount bracket
Old School BDM pre 2000 coil cover
    LED headlight
    LowDownChopShop Gas Cap
    Some of my spiked goods
    One off Flamed Sissy Bar
    Roland Sands Moto Footpegs
    Smoked turn lenses
    Corbin Leather Seat
    2up peg set and seat
    Shorty spiked mirrors
    All electronics Conformal coated
    Lyndall Z brake pads
    Bike cover
    Extra hand control boards
    Chopper Handle Bars
    Removed chrome plated parts
    Factory seat and misc parts
....And on and on and on
    11k miles
    Very good tires

I know what a STOCK, UNTOUCHED, Big Dog is worth....Also how unreliable it is.

That IS NOT This bike, so I won't sell it for $10k but if I must sell it for a better reason, I want to get out of it what it truly is worth to the guy that wants this bike.

You will find it very hard to find another Big Dog that you can just jump on and ride anywhere without worry, that is in the condition this bike is.

I completely understand your position. My son and his wife had to do the same thing..... to get the money, he sold his '64 1/2 Mustang convertible ... that he had painstakingly restored to almost mint... but; they got twins ! Toys come and go, but family is forever. :) Congrats on the new baby !!

This being an old thread and following along with Jake and his bike over the years, where does this beautiful Ridge call home these days?

Been a while since I've been in here. Just thought I'd post an update on the adoption.

I ended up pulling the funds off the equity on my home and borrowed the remaining $20k of the adoption and have kept the Big Dog. Have had a few guys lightly interested in it but I didn't get agressive with the price. So I am keeping it but really questioning how much I'm going to use it vs cost of keeping insurance/plates on it at all times so I know I can just jump on it and ride.

But aside from that our baby boy will be born around April 21st. Going to de induced labor and doctor may be doing it a week early. If so that is just a bit over 5 weeks from now.

    It getting REAL Now!

I thought I'd post a few pics of my life and maybe a few of the Rat Rod Radio Flyer I'm just starting on and hope to have it done by the time he is old enough to sit up and go for walks with the wagon around our community in the evenings!

    Take care guys, I'll be checking back soon! 20171126_191200.jpg 20180305_202003.jpg 20180225_184917.jpg 20171208_171830.jpg 20180218_155816.jpg 27WEEK_34.JPG

Man good luck, and I know what it is like to have a family, even though mine are grown and have there own now. Me a grandpa of 6 and they all like bikes too, just a little to young to drive. Really like the rat rod, who would have thought of doing that good job.

I sold my Ridge for a new roof so I could sell my house and move where I live now. Your reasons were far more compelling. Glad you kept it, congratulations on your new family, and you absolutely have your priorities in order. Best day of my life is the day my daughter was born.
