Changed the oil today decided to try Mobil 1 instead of amsoil due to info I've read claims Mobil 1 is quieter than amsoil and redline and to my suprise it's true, I rode approx 50 miles got the motor good and hot and MUCH quieter than amsoil! Figured I'd share this from experience :chopper:

I've used amsoil for years, and still put it in bikes if they request it, but the price of it has gotten ridicules. Mobil 1 for me. Run it in everything I have.

That's good info, anyone have lifter tapping and have to constantly adjust? I was told I'd have to do so until I got to about 15k on my bike.. I got her a little over a year ago with 3200 and now have right at 9500 and it's driving me nuts!

Amsoil is one of the greatest scams ever perpetrated on the American public. Questionable product with a Mickey Mouse distribution system.

Mobil 1 for me too. I have noticed however that it is slippery on the clutch when it's cold, meaning the clutch slips during high torque before the oil gets good and warm...

I have more ticking noise with synthetic oils. I just run dino oil - Rev-tec 20w50. 30,000 miles and no problems....I've never adjusted anything. You shouldn't have to constantly adjust your lifters. Mine sounds like a sewing machine with synthetic oil, but I have TP rocker boxes also.

Always loved RevTech in the primary was hard to find so use Trick Shift now. I just noticed you can buy revtech 20w50 by the gallon for about $20. Nice price.

I put a 585 cam in my bike at about 13K and readjusted the push rods and it did quiet it down a lot, but I don't know if I would readjust just to quiet it down, that's the nature of the beast:old2:

I have basically been told by numerous people that it's a high performance engine and that it'll always make some kind of lifter noise.. I just feel as if it can't be good for my engine.. never had to deal with this on any of my jap bikes.. just changed oil and rode.. lol

If your hydraulic lifters make noise, you either have them adjusted wrong, or have a mechanical problem.(There are some cams that are noisy).

I use what ever is on special....................as long as it is fully synthetic, they all have to meet design criteria and the chemical composition has to be spot on for any oil company to distribute their product.
Sure some are better than others, but if it says 10W40 on the bottle that is what it has to be by law (well here in Australia) as for the SPI/SAE they all appear to say the same thing. There are some that break down earlier than others, some have other bits like detergent (degreaser in oil WTF) but basically if you change your oil regularly say between 2K and 4K klm as i do than i can't see the diff. IMO.
