Hey Guys, I have a 2006 Big Dog K-9. I just installed 2 new Metzler tires. I tweeked the rear tire as much as I could to give me as much clearance from rear belt. Belt still scrapes tire, even dropped air pressure to 37! Any ideas? Thank you very much, Mike Toz!

Well, having shaved the one on the bike, it aint easy. I tried an open shoe grinder (made a lotta smoke), tried a rasp, no good either, tried several other things with very little results. Ended up using a razor blade. PIA, but it did the job. Not pretty but effective. I originally tried to find a spoke shave but they really hard to come by.

Sounds good huh? Uh.....nope. It wont cut rubber cause it givez too much. Perhaps a plastic cutter..... ya know, like a heated tightly wound wire?

Thank you all but why are they selling these tires if you have to modify them when Avons run perfectly?

Well, they don't make those for Big Dogs only. And they do mention on their site the 300 tire is between like 285 and 315. Or something

BDM did their design work around the Avon, which, at the time, was a damn fine tire. So it's now either a lesser quality Avon or make do with the others.

Let me break it down as I have gone through the same thing. The metzeler is actually 318mm wide, the avon is 301, ur best bet is to cock it a bit to the left and just wear it out.. replace with avon and do bearings at the same time as they will probably be wore out from riding cocked. I prefer metzeler over avon hands down, but this is just how it is on these bikes. I have an 07 K9 like Paul and don't know how he doesn't have tire rub unless his tire isn't alight correct. But it's also a p ossibilty that he has a bdm frame and not a Daytek. Good luck with whatever you do.

I used a rasp on both the Metz and the Shinko to remove about 4mm, I had it up on the jack and just spun the tire as I rasped it until I had a radius on the tire instead of the point on the side wall

Metz has rather large tolerance on the tires too...

Guru, I run 40 in front and 42 in rear. Looks like 2116 on sidewall, don't know what that means.
