I need to re-chrome a rear wheel. Looking for recommendations for a reliable chrome shop to get the job done right. I'm located in the Tampa area.

The way I understand the process to recrome a piece you first have to remove the old chrome. On a steel piece it dosent seem to be a big deal. Aluminum seems to be a different animal. The process sometimes destroys the finer details of the aluminum piece. Let us know what the plating company tells you. Good luck!

Hydrochloric acid to remove the chromium; or a proprietary formulation that is usually HCl-based. Then electrolytically remove the bright nickel, then remove the copper electrolytically or with a persulfate-based solution. Acids are usually not a huge deal for aluminum, but it will digest readily in a strong base, especially with the addition of heat.
