Back to Topic of Gas Cap Paint Saver & paint bubbles:
...wanted to respond to this aspect specifically within the overall thread in case there was any misunderstanding.
a) Remove old cap flange/saver, Landmark stock OEM on Big Dog, (was there a gasket? if so WRONG!)
b) Contact "Mr. Wright" to get a custom over size "Paint-Saver-Ring"
c) Dry fit all
d) Glue down loose paint chips/bubbles with crazy glue, xBon, or equivelant super glue
e) Permatex RTV Silicone (clear color) the heck out of the top of tank, bottom of new "Paint-Saver-Ring"; masking tape around perimeter of area to avoid excess Silicone ooze and inside of gas tank flange...
f) Torque flange down over new "Paint-Saver-Ring"
g) Let dry, NO GAS, No cap, for 4 days.
If you used the rubber gasket --WRONG! It will surely leak with the gasket on a Big Dog tank.
Going on 2 years now since I fixed mine and no bubbles or leaks. Never fill gas above bottom of gas tank inner fill neck about 1.25" down from top of tank flange.
