Handle bar vibration

Tapio is the one that turned me on to this. And as he was telling me about it I got to thinking. On my 03, the handle bar ends were to short for the grips to slide all the way on, so the end of the left one was squishy. So I took a piece of aluminum and drove it in the end of the bar to add length to it. Throttle side always vibrated more than the clutch side, but I never really gave it much thought, till Tapio told me about this.
I got on DLXProdox web site and found some grips that almost match my pegs.

The inside of the handle bars are 1''. so I found a piece of tubing that was close'

Welded it to a piece of scrap metal.

I've been saving scrap lead for years, so I grabbed some wheel weights

And made a lead slug

Two things I'll do differently next time,
1. Make two 2'' slugs
2. weld a nut with a bolt to the bottom, so I can push the slug out.
My tubing warped and it was kind of hard to get it out.

and sawing lead with a hack saw was not as easy as you would think.
Tapio said he drilled a hole in the middle, and used a lag bolt to swell the lead to hold it in place, but even though I had to tap the slug into the handle bar, and oiled the threads of the lag bolt, I couldn't get it to hold.

So I crimped the slug with a pair of channel locks, and covered them with black silicone, and drove them in the bar

Then spread the excess around the end. If I ever need to take them back out for some reason, I can screw the lag bolt in them and pull them out with a slide hammer.

I found a NOS set of Vibranator Handlebar Dampners that I've run in the Pit for a few yrs now. They made a big difference. I don't think they are made any longer but several other brands seem to be available.

Yep I remember seeing those on the forum many moons ago. I can't recall if there was ever ones for the 1.5" bars on the 04 and up.

Quick search online led me to eBay. $50 for the set for the Harley Bars.

Prototype is finished. Grade 13 bolt is counter sunk in. Snug bolt to gum rubber then slide in handle bar. Then tighter she shit out of it causing the gum rubber to mash outward . The vibration will transfer through the rubber into the stainless steel billets put a drop of lock tight on bolt then assemble to prevent backing offAC0FDDA0-12D0-4840-A17C-BCB66369B7A8.jpeg A450F6BE-7489-43DA-BBEF-75C4FF2089A7.jpeg
