Wrong !
Anything that makes an engine more efficient = longer life.(doesn't have to work as hard to get the job done).
Sometimes SIMPLE BOLT ON stuff makes the situation WORSE, ie: bolt a longer duration cam with a later intake closing on your 117" stock Dog, you'll prolly be able to run faster than the bike will go. Kinda like putting a band aid on a heart attack.
Usually major engine geometry is changed to pass EPA, and to correct it machine work is needed.
Another example is the new H.D. Milwaukee 8 engine. The production heads have such large intake, and exhaust ports, that if you port those heads you'll not gain much in power, and you'll lose a shitload of torque. The Screamin Eagle heads they sell in the aftermarket, have smaller ports, and respond well to porting. The production heads would be a good foundation for a 150 + cu. in. engine.

Thank you! I did a ton of research and spoke with a ton of sales people for specs and technical people to understand why before I did all this work. Unfortunately the machine work was great, but his diagnostics and measurements weren't on my rockers or I wouldn't still have this clock ticking on crack sitting on top of my engine. The only thing I did different from factory specs of a 117 crate engine was bored it over by .05 and install Carillo Pistons due to the jugs being egg shaped. Aside from That, the exact specs that S&S gave me were used and I'm sure as soon as I figure out this rocker issue, I'll be more then happy with her.

Finally got the tapatalk app to work.. So this is what s&s suggested, never thought about doing a set screw, thanks for that advice John, I'm sure that will do the trick and I'll be good to go. I'll do it this weekend and let you all know

Dam Kel, that looks like a primitive fix but if it works it works.

I’ve got mine apart right now to replace a leaking rear rocker box gasket, tranny leak, clutch slip/drag, and install a .585 cam :D Great timing on this thread as the constant ticking was driving me nuts too. I thought it was coming from the connecting rods/lifters. Going to take the rockers into work and thread in a set screw to lock the rocker shafts as suggested. Spring is coming and this riding season is going to be even better!

I'm going to do what John suggested and put a set screw in there.. haven't done it yet cuz I've been working 140 hours every 2 weeks.. so family and wife time has been priority on my time off.. lol.. but I'll be getting it done sooner then later and will update with results.. bike runs amazing.. just ticks like crazy!

I agree.. I did what s&s suggested and it just quieted it down.. but didn' take it away
Kel, are you going to do it or ride for now and get to it later? I’ve got a slight tic but not enough to pull it apart just for that. Will be a must do if I have to take it apart for another gasket set though.

I'e been riding it for a while like so.. I mean the bike screams and all is well.. but I'm hoping to do it this weekend.. if not maybe next or so. I just need to make sure I do it before June for unleashed

Definitely have it good to go for unleashed. Keep us posted on how it goes. I’m chasing a carb issue now getting ready for bike-week. Talked to Ker and a local tech so few things to look at tomorrow.

Looks good. Very nice install.

Thanks guys. Suggestion came from this forum so glad to share how it works out for me. Would have never imagined this could be the source of that tic. One thing I noticed though was out of four rocker shafts, only one was snug where the bolt should lock the shaft in place. The other three holes were pretty sloppy. Shafts are definitely locked now. Im looking forward to seeing if this issue is resolved myself.
