EHC replacement

Hi,

Curtis suggested me to make an EHC for the 2003 and earlier models. However, it´s winter time and not the right weather for riding. I know, that the 2003 EHC is absolutely not a big business but I like the bikes, even when they use the bulky Harley style handle bar switches. So, I have looked to the schematics and have start with the project. The 2003 EHc is easier compare to the other EHC, cause some signals are just pass the connectors and don´t affect the control. The wiring of the older bikes is more traditional. Additional the connectors are much better compare to the computer con´s what were used at the newer EHC. I ordered some connectors from Mouser and started the layout. I hope to get the parts in the same housing, what I use for the other EHC. Here is the "first shot" of the layout without the solder paths yet:

I don´t know if the space between the con´s is enough and will continue when I got the con´s delivered.
My first questions are: Does somebody have a high res. pic of the original 2003 EHC? What kind of connector is the 8 pin J5? I have found only low res pics, where I can not identify the 8 pin. Thanks a lot in advance!

All the best!

The first layout is ready. It was a bit tricky this time due to the size of the connectors. Does somebody know, if the position of con 5 (the straight 8 pin) what goes to the speedo will fit with the harness? Thanks a lot!

Whaddya mean?? Blacktopper and I are retired and we cruise at 83-84 mph routinely, altho I guess 150 kph is 92 or 93 mph.
Lol. I’m not even 40 and I’m good at 55-60. Granted I did get off a Honda RC211 racebike.

I just sent my ehc off to be tested by slick. I’m praying it’s bad. So if so. I’ll be in touch with you. What’s the turn around? It’s an 05 carb mastiff. I also heard you’re giving a warranty. Is that true?

Hi,

I have finish a few of the first test boards. I just need to put a microcontroller on it and need to write the software, what is compare to the other EHC a bit like kids birthday, cause the box have not many functions. Here is a pic:

However, I usually have a few issues on the first boards. I´ll keep ypu inform after I have put it in a 2003 bike and if there was no fire... ;-)

All the best and a nice weekend!

Hi Todd,

Yes, let´s try. Just send me your contact details and I´ll bring a test device on the way.

However, I had visited a dealer yesterday and have tested an EHC without success :-/ I have simply put the con J4 on the board in the direction what is stated in the BD wire diagram. But it need to be turn at 180 degree in the real life. I already changed it and will see, when I have the opportunity to go there again, cause the next 2003 BD is 120 km far from my place...

The next issue is still, that the distance between the 8 pin con and J1, J2 is a bit too low on my board. I was able to bend it yesterday in order that it had fit, but this is not a solution in a bike...

So, there is still a bit work to do as usual...

All the best!

Hi Todd,

no problem, I´ll bring it on the way via normal post way tomorrow. They usually need 8 - 14 days, depending of your location. I have put a small proforma invoice (Don´t pay it...) outside of the package, what should help to "bypass" your local custom office.

I atach a pic. You still need to bend the 8 pin connector away from the other con´s in order that it will fit. I already changed the layout for the serie.

Waiting for your reply after the test...

All the best!
