UPDATE: AmFam is looking into the 'value' some more. Originally they said it's worth $11,800 with a salvage value of $4600. They said they obtained a quote for the salvage value. I'm assuming that means they called a salvage yard or auction or something. I told the guy he needs to be a a lot closer to 16k on the value, minus the salvage, would net me back about 11,400 or so. We will see.

Does that salvage value seem right to anyone? Seems like an arbitrary number.

Another thing I don't miss about PA.

All 3 of my vehicles have free inspections for as long as I own them, from the dealer. Its nice to know if it needs brakes before next inspection, otherwise no one knows and the rotors get chewed up, but maybe ya don't need brakes, . Most just drive them into the ground until there's a problem, then it gets costly and they wonder why
Or I just have my son throw a lickm n stickm on it, he has his Pa state inspection license.

$4600 sounds reasonable at auction. The bike still runs and drives.

Your value should be NADA or whatever book value PLUS upgrades/accessories. Whatever that nets you I don't know.

The only thing about upgrades is they depreciate along with age of vehicle for example if you put a $1200 exhaust on the bike when it was new 10 years later it's not still worth $1200

Right they have their normal depreciation calc for accessories.

Yes, but also no. For example the air ride kit used from Donna is still $800. New it was $1000. A XXX carb (which you can't get now) is still $625 if you send it in. The 585 cam and head work is now more than it was 10 years ago. Problem is finding a bike in the shape mine is in and then having to add all the parts I've added.

Further, this isn't MY policy, this is American Family and the other driver is 100% at fault. They have to return me to pre-loss condition.

Did a little law digging. This is pretty clear. The state has written statues that speak specifically to vehicles that are unique/special. Time to get quotes and gather receipts!

Total Loss Claims

1. The insurer shall develop and maintain written procedures that will be consistently used when determining the value of a vehicle declared a total loss.

2. Claims files shall include the credible source used for valuation by vendor name and the methodology for determining the amount of the loss. Claims files shall document that the valuation considered unique characteristics of a total loss vehicle, such as classic status, unique finishes, mileage and/or, special accessories.

Maybe, but likely not. Not afraid to, just means my buddy gets them to pay more of his fees.

What a great system, your required to have it in most states and that makes the companies smile but when you need it the companies want to totally screw you over as much as they can as you jump through hoops, no matter how long you have been paying them.

Settled it out. Kept the bike and they wrote me a check for 10k. That puts the much argued about value at 14,600, assuming it really would bring $4600 at auction (I'm still suspect of that, but who knows.)

No, no salvage since it was never booked through and sold at auction etc. I guess in CO an insurer can pay out for a 'total loss' and it doesn't have to have the title branded if it is owner retained. The reality is the bike is basically fine, just some minor cosmetic damage, but the parts are so bloody expensive new that it doesn't take much for an insurance company to just say it's a total loss rather than having to source parts.

I know I’m really late on this, but if the UBER Driver had a passenger in his car, you need to contact the local UBER office. The carry a $1M policy on it while it is in service.
I’m betting you’ll get a lot less resistance from them.

Trying to get the paint codes. Emailed Matt at big dog and he forwarded it to Ed (I think airbrush ed, not sure) and haven't heard back. I can't find the old paint sheet anywhere. I swear it was on here once...anyone have a clue? It's black and orange "landscape" flames. It was one of the calendar bikes in 2006. Pearl orange flames...house of Kolor Donna thought but she's not sure either.
