as you are sitting on the bike, the left bolt came loose somewhat easy, but the left one is a S.O.B.

Bush, check out my "How To" on changing the front tire. It shows how it comes apart. I've also posted the schematics from the service manual in the gallery.

there are two pinch bolts on the back side of the left leg from the front of the bike. they pinch the axle bolt and keep it from coming loose.

Thanks for the responses everyone, when Lee said pinch bolts I went down to the man cave and investigated. It loosened right up after the "pinch bolts" were removed. DUH!
Thanks Ray, I was looking at the manual for 20 min before I started, and still never noticed the pinch bolts.
Again thanks everyone
Wes

Ditto Mega thanks for your info on rebuilding the forks (gasman, et al) and the pinch bolts on the front wheel axle. I had just put a long screwdriver and a rubber mallet on the work bench to pound that cotton-pick in' axle out when the idea fairy lighted on my shoulder and whispered in my good ear to check the Forum out first. SOOO glad I did..so is my BD K9!

Aaah! THOSE two 1/4-20 pinch screws at the bottom of the right (as sitting on bike) Lowe leg! Service Manual Page 2-90 Rev. B , left column, 4th paragraph from bottom of page!

I wish that little voice would have shouted in my ear the first time I took mine apart.

I wish the little voice had told me the bolt was already bottomed out before that last twist.... :( Bushing and left hand drill and I will get it removed. Shorter bolts will go back in.....

Use Stainless not Chrome on those pinch bolts there so it will only be a grade 5. Just so if it happens again it's a LOT easier to drill out.

I actually think the manual states Stainless too...and only like 12 ft/lbs or something.

Yeah, the axle would not tighten up so I just kept cranking. I hope it drills out easy....ha!
