Got rear ended on K9

UPDATE! NEED HELP! See new post please

As title states, I got rear ended on my K9 this weekend by a moron UBER driver. He decided he wanted in my lane, cut off the guy behind me, and rear ended me at about a 45* angle. I was stopped and it was in traffic on the slow surface street in town. Kept the bike up and luckily didn't get injured save from a small bit of rash on my knee from my knee hitting the coil cover or something, not sure.

He's insured (as far as his paperwork shows, haven't called yet) and admitted fault (obvious) on camera.

My question is: the bike took 80% of the hit on the rear tire, and a bit on the fender. The fender looks like it's slightly bent up on the left side and has a small chip. I also hit the car in front of me which chipped my front fender right on top. I rode the bike home and everything seems ok, but I'm seriously worried the insurance adjuster will basically claim nothing is wrong aside from the small chips and the slight fender bend and call it a $500 fix at best. Since the brunt of the collision was in the tire, is there something I can check for elsewhere? The belt seems to be the same tightness as it was before, so I don't think it pushed everything forward, but I'm worried about some cracks or something I might not see.

Anyone have any experience with a similar wreck and know what to check? Or have an idea how to argue this?

The damage to his car is slight, but it did put a crease in his bumper (it's a Hyundai sedan) and make a big spot the size of a basketball where the paint is all spider webbed and cracked. Pushed in a trim vent area too.

Thanks guys

Go over your bike with a fine tooth comb. Check ALL the welds for cracks, Rear axle, wheels..... A strong flashlight will help. Find the issues BEFORE the ins co makes up their minds. Pictures pictures pictures....n video. Glad your safe and in one piece.

Be diligent about checking the frame where the swingarm connects to the frame. Unfortunately it's not easy to get to, I would take the fender off.

Sounds like the tire absorbed most of the hit and if the wheel rim isn't bent at all you might be good to go.

Yeah seems like the tire took the brunt of it. How do I check the wheel? I don't see any obvious damage anywhere, I'm more worried about something failing down the road after I've settled with the idiot.

I would suspect the aluminum would have bulged out somewhere. But you could take it in to a shop to make sure the tire is still balanced.

I would take it into a bike shop for an inspection/estimate. So sorry to hear about your accident but glad you weren't hurt

Myself I would be checking out of round wheel with make shift pointer then roll wheel.Look for small cracks near center of the wheel where the legs touch the hub and wheel. Then rotate wheel feel for damaged wheel bearings and possibly bent axle shaft then remove the axle and do a visual. A t least get the insurance to pay you or someone else for this inspection! Check the shock bolts too.Custom paint as you know can be expensive hope it works out Sutton.

Found a shop here in town to look it over. Old school sounding owner, should be in good hands. Thanks all, I'll report back.
Yep good call...tell him to mark it all up so you can give the insurance adjuster and invoice.

somewhere down the road, there may be separation of the belts in the tire, i would say it needs to be replaced also.

Yeah the tire took most of it. For sure getting a new tire. Anything they don't want to cover, I'll make them sign off on liability for. This should be fun.

First -- glad you are ok.
Since the tire took the brunt of the impact and the fenders (cars) absorb even more, I find it unlikely that there's much to worry about but better safe than sorry.

I went sideways today in traffic when someone stopped short a couple of cars up, I had glanced to my left for 1/4 sec and when back it was oh shit -- locked the brakes and right before getting into the cars bumper I was sideways a bit, feet on the ground holding the bike up, my girlfriend slide forward and was in my seat. Luckily no harm no foul. Nice people in front of me -- they had the person stop short in front of them, got out and checked to make sure we were ok even though they knew we hadn't hit them. Thought that was nice.

Yeah I'm hoping between the tire and his bumper there isn't anything major messed up. Hard to tell from pics of the bike but here is his bumper. Crease is from my fender. IMG_7552.JPG

Looking forward to retirement
Bring the bike to Denver Customs. Have them check it out. On tin's contact air brush Ed. Let him give you a quote to turn in. This can be justified since he was a painter at big dog
