Thanks for the replies.... the spike is pointed forward and the bowl vent removed. I will check the caps. Have not recently cleaned the air filter. I have adjusted the carb and it doesn't pop and backfire on decel or anything like that. I just can't get it to wind up with full power before i shift. Could the ignition box have an issue?

Problem started after the bike was put back together after having the tank painted over the winter. I cleaned the screen on the petcock before putting it back in. I am getting plenty of fuel. I even mixed some 100 octane in with the 93 non ethenol to see if running cleaner fuel would help. I changed the plugs tonight too and I will see if that helps tomorrow. I will also turn the spike up.

I had a flush cap that wasn't venting. I just installed a new cap from shoveheadkicker that vents properly, but have only test rode it twice since then. I think that might have caused some problems. I'm going to look at the vent caps tomorrow for sure.

I've got mine pointed forward and it never misses a beat runs perfect but I know some had trouble with it forward
I had a spike on my 05 Bulldog and could never get it to run pointing forward, it would do the same thing up to 3000 rpm or so and then sputter and cough, just ran like crap, turn it vertical and it worked great, just didn't look good to me so it came off, went to the stock Big Dog and it looked and ran great. :old2:

Just for a test clean the air filter with the solvent provided by k&n rinse it and let it dry and put it back on the bike with no oil on it and take it out for a short test ride.

Thanks for the help so far guys. I have changed the direction of the spike, adjusted the carb, cleaned the air filter, replaced the rubber vacuum cap on top of the carb, and replaced the plugs. The problem has moved down to the 2400 - 2800 rpm range now. Please help if you can, I've ran out of ideas. No matter whether I ease up through that rpm range or run hard through it, it still runs bad at that spot. could my ignition box be going bad? I only have a week to get this fixed. I'm headed to Myrtle Beach Bike Rally this weekend.

Hey guys I'm having about the same problem, the lower gears as you wind it up it has a flat spot but if you crank it up it doesn't miss.I recently added the spiked air cleaner, the problem that really concerns me is the front cylinder is running lean. I have a triple XXX carburetor and is the bowl vent plug on the inside of the carb .totally confused, which is a normal way of life for me!!!!

Simple stuff first. Read your plugs 1st. SECOND... Pull jets and check them. Id start with main jet. My .02 cents

My bike has been sitting for a year with a full tank... I might go to pick her up in a month or so... should I change the gas?

I don´t think I will, it´s too expensive to just throw it away!!!!
Does your gas over there have ethanol in it? and did you add any stabilizer to the gas?
