By 2008, BDM pretty much had everything updated and fixed that needed to be. But, it's always a good idea to give the bike a good once over for any loose bolts/nuts. Check wires under seat and make sure the ones to battery are nice and tight. Otherwise, if it runs good...just do your maintenance and ride :2thumbs:

There was an issue with the Chrome Wheels peeling in 08, mine (did) (are), if your bike has the Chrome package. That is all just a too bad issue now.

These are the only recalls that I remember. Made sure they were completed on my 2008 Mastiff:

Make: BIGDOG Model: K9, MASTIFF, RIDGEBACK
Model Year: 2008
Manufacturer: BIG DOG MOTORCYCLES, LLC Mfr's Report Date: SEP 11, 2007
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 07V460000
N/A
NHTSA Action Number: N/A
Component: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS

Summary:
ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, THE FUEL LINE CAN POTENTIALLY CONTACT HEATED METAL PARTS OF THE MOTORCYCLE AND MELT.
Consequence:
THIS CONDITION COULD OCCUR WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNING AND COULD RESULT IN FUEL LEAKAGE. FUEL LEAKAGE, IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.
Remedy:
DEALERS REPLACED THE FUEL LINE WITH ONE THAT HAS HIGHER THERMAL RESISTANCE PROPERTIES. ALSO NEW FUEL LINES WERE REROUTED TO FURTHER REDUCE EXPOSURE TO HEATED METAL. ALL MOTORCYCLES HAVE BEEN REPAIRED. NO OWNER NOTIFICATION WILL BE NECESSARY.

Make: BIGDOG Model: K9, MASTIFF, MUTT
Model Year: 2008
Manufacturer: BIG DOG MOTORCYCLES, LLC Mfr's Report Date: DEC 11, 2007
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 07V580000 NHTSA Action Number: N/A
Component: STRUCTURE:BODY

Summary:
ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, THE REAR FENDER STRUT ATTACHING BOLTS CAN FAIL ALLOWING THE REAR FENDER TO DETACH FROM THE MOTORCYCLE.
Consequence:
THIS COULD OCCUR WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING AND COULD RESULT IN AN INJURY OR A CRASH.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL REMOVE EXISTING STRUT BOLTS AND REPLACE WITH HIGHER TENSILE STRENGTH ATTACHING BOLTS AND UPDATED WASHERS. HIGHER TORQUE VALUES WILL BE OBSERVED WHEN INSTALLING THE REPLACEMENT FASTENERS. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JANUARY 21, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT BIG DOG AT 316-267-9121.

I came across a 08 pit bull sissy bar and luggage rack if your looking for one let me know they are pretty rare pieces I've never seen them before so I scooped them up to find a owner. The bike was wrecked so the Sissy Bar was bent and I brought it back into shape but needs rechrome.

Luggage Rack on the other hand is in perfect condition must not have been on the bike in the accident.

What Andrew says in post #3.......ALWAYS listen carefully to Andrew.:old2:
I have an '08 K9 and other than self-inflicted damage, have found it to be reliable...north of 60K miles and still strong. Never stranded me even once. Put a lot of money in it, but every time I do anything, I have an urge to upgrade, and it costs.
In the end, I'll say this: If I knew then what I know now, I would do it again. Love that bike, and will always have it or one just like it!
(p.s. still has original clutch cable and ECH)

Rick that is quite e tetimony to reliability of BDM. Tells me you are passonate about maintenance and care of your bike. What is your maintenance advise on the servicing a clutch cable in order that it will last 60K miles.

I just had this discussion with him a few weeks ago he lubes the cable twice a year with Dri-Slide Graphite Cable Lube.

For most of us that don't put as many miles on he does once a year should be sufficient. Clean out and repack the ball and ramp with some quality grease and lube the cable.
