I had the bike shop service the bike when I bought it. I'm a Amsoil dealer so I will have to order some for next time.

I used Rev Tec no issues. Now that I have a bandit clutch set-up I use syn as suggested and it works great!

Interestingly enough, just went through this. I've had 2 K9's since August of 2012 and both were 2007 models within a couple 100 on the VIN #. My first one I dropped all the fluids and went Amsoil in the engine, Redline primary fluid (syn) and Redline tranny with shockproof. I sold that bike after riding it over 3K miles with absolutely NO issues what so ever. Bought another '07 in June. Same thing, dropped all fluids and replaced same as I did with the other K9 only this time, NO NO putting Redline in the primary. I dropped it out, took outer primary cover off, disassembled clutch pack and replaced fluid with RevTech primary fluid.....runs like a champ. WTF????? Why would one bike be fine with Syn and the other throw up all over itself? Both of them I bought with 2400 to 2500 miles....

You know I'm going to throw the wrench in the gear's ear. Take 2 cans of 30 yr old straight 50w racing, add a quart of 10w40 syn, top the rest off with 5w30. Do you think I'm that anal over what I pour in?

Oh, he's nuts you can tell, that's the difference. Yeah but he's saying, if you drank coors from the springs of Colorado, or the van nuys water of Bud, you'd be wiser if you saw water is water and crude is crude once distilled.

A crude experiment none the less but to quote the bike before the required valve inspection, all those anal changes of 2,700 w/filter was the average. Plug in that 18k number for that first valve inspection. Book says working pressures are between 149 to 228. Mine read 220 psi pretty much across the board of 4 cylinders.

That said it was scientific enough to start laughing at oil threads. Ask me what I would pour in my primary, engine, trans? "Anything.... I.... want!"

ATF is made for wet clutches and chains. My clutch slipped all the time.
Put ATF in. Never slipped again
yes sir...same here. 2004 Ridgey, Could never get the clutch adjusted right, thought it was the clutch pack. Took it all apart, measured each and every plate. Followed a bloggers advice, reassembled and filled it with ATF..... haven't had an issue since:2thumbs:

Sven's stirring the pot again! Stirring all those weights together.

However, I can't disagree much.

I've used HD Primary Chaincase Lube, Amsoil, HD Syn 3, and Twin Power Primary Lube.:D

1 or 2 of them seemed to shift into 1st a little quieter when cold, but the earth shattering difference described by some.....seems preposterous to me. :argue::roll::roll::roll:

Then again, the 03 Dog has a basic HD primary. Works basically the same as they did 40 years ago with my 1st scoot.

Don't mind me, I'm just an old fart.:loony::roll::loony::roll:

Disclaimer: None of the old bike wrenches that I know have ever recommended ATF or Synthetic. Just medium weight oils that don't screw with the workings of the friction plates by reducing the friction and/or gumming them up.

Gotta use some common sense here. :2thumbs:

When I bought the bike the shop put synthetic oil in it, a few months later I noticed it slipping in 3rd and 4th gears when I got on it, switched to non-syn B & M Trick Shift and no problems since.

Well.............. Syn in all three holes always and never had a problem.... My guess is that all is about on having everything well adjusted....

This is one of those subjects that everyone will have their own... we are talking oils, right?

Amsoil 20w50 in everything but the gas tank.
In everything no... only motor & primary... for trans 70-140. (or something like that from memory) but also from Amsoil.

I have bought a pack of SPECTRO.... I will try it shortly.... for me is about the same price as A,soil (F...ng Spencive) as I have to import it from another country... so... why not try, but I am VERY happy with AMSOIL.
