Thanks for the write up and pics.

I like the little fuses and simplified wireing. Gives me something to think about (WIre Plus or PDM).

great post fiber....how hard to find and how long of a wait is there on this kit...i have an 05 and am very interested....thanks
From my understanding BDPP has them made up in small batches with the different models done at different times. When I spoke to them about 2 months ago, they were in the process of having like 15 made up for the 2005 250 kits. I let me dealer know and they followed up and made sure that when BDPP got them done that mine was one in the group to be shipped. I paid for it up front to make sure.

So I would say, if they do not have any stockl, that it would be from 1 month to 2 to get one depending on your model and when that next batch will be made up.

You can order directly from Big Dog Performance Parts or in my case, I had my dealer do the ordering and just paid a little more for it in order to continue to support a good dealer that has always done me right.

Oh I went out for a short ride today since it did not rain and started to clear up. Everything worked well and no problems after a 56 mile ride. May put many more in on Wednesday but not sure, my 1125R Buell needs some loving and there is ome twisties that are calling me in the the hills of WV.

Purple Dog,

Good luck and I think once you do, you will be very satisfied. If by chance you do have problems with the Horn, I hope to get a good scan of the schematic and the instructions up later and if successful, hopefully they will help.

You can also send me a PM with a phone number and I could give you a call to see if I amy be able to help any.
Appreciate the support Fiber; I've got the schematic with the kit too ...:2thumbs: I know I'll have to come up with a way to operate my Air Ride with some hidden mirco-switches. I'm hoping I don't experience the horn issue, other than that I should be fine whenever I get into it post season. Enjoy your time off and stay safe when you return to the sandbox. Thanks for your service and the offer to help if/when I need it. :flag:

Great write up!

But, I think, just my opinion... That the BDM Kit looks like more of a rats
nest than most of the Wire Plus installs people have sent me.

I was hoping to see something that was simple and clean, but I have to say
that BDM did a terrible job in my opinion of how the wiring is layed out in that
new kit. There seems to be tons of just extra wire tied all over the place.

Make sure none of the wires are touching the side covers, If they do, In less than a year
the vibration will cause the side covers to wear completely through the
wire insulation.
Of course it wont short out on a plastic side cover but the wires will start to rot.

Well not sure what you mean by all the extra wire. On my kit every wire went to one of the existing connection with the exception of the 4 that was for the Medalion Speedometer. Other than that no extra wires.

Maybe they could have done better with some of the grounds being consulated into more common, however with the way they did the three sub groups with braiding, it is somewhat easy to move around.

Maybe it is the design since it seems that pretty much grounds to each component, and allot of positive wires. That said, it should be easy to troubleshoot, since one can isolate a section easier.

True about the side covers and it does pay to take the time to do good wire management to make sure nothing rubs or is in stress. That said, not much different than the wiring bundles on the original EHC.

It would also be easy to shorten some of the positive and maybe even combine them like I did with the common ground. I may tackle to get it cleaner next time around.

All said though, I am very satisfied with what I ended up with and will see how it holds up.

Based on my experience with the install and the apparent design, I will have to say it seems to be a good system. If not, I can always take it out and reinstall by old harness and EHC until I get around to making it all simple old school style.

It is just Jake's opinion! Jake has also modified the WP system to be an even easier install. How long did it take you to install the PDM? You did a good job with the pictures.:2thumbs::2thumbs::2thumbs:

Nuke for me it was just short of 4 hours. If I did another one under similar circumstance, would be closer to 3.

Back overseas now, so it will be awhile before I get to test it more, but did manage to get close to 300 on it without any problems. Maybe next time home I will go in and tiddy up the wiring managment even more, but not too concern for after the limited riding, everything worked fine, no chaffing or rubbing observed and it appears to be working well.

Best to all and safe riding!

Good info on 3 to 4 hour install. I am guessing Jake's modified WP will take the same amount of time. Anyway, glad it all worked out for you. For me, it is WP and it is on its way as a backup since my EHC works fine.:D

Correct, the WP should be about the 4 hour mark for first timer. Without the ignition switch, I can install one in about 2-3.

Nuke, I understand about the Back-up, my EHC was working fine also (with exception of oil pressure lite due to a broken pin that I broke). I tried to save the EHC and old harness in case the PDM does not work.

I am sure that Jake or other will hook you up with the WP and from what I read, it seems to take about the same amount of time and approx same cost.

Good luck when you do change out and in mean time, safe and enjoyable riding.

Yep, I got in at the last minute on the Group Buy (May never have to use it!):D I am a big "Back-up/Redundancy" type of guy. For example, I put in a pressure gauge as a back-up to my oil pressure light, oil temperature gauge to make sure my temperatures were good, and have 3 BDM keys just in case. Heck, my spare back tire will probably be past its 5 year born on date before I change it out. Anyway, you get the idea.:D

Jake I call bullshit on that. For once I'll toot my own horn, I doubt anyone here can question my abilities, and I've done over a dozen WP installs, and it STILL takes me 6 hours start to finish. Don't sugar coat it, I hate that shit. The PDM is a MUCH cleaner install than the WP, unless you take bucu time to extend and re-route wires, and trouble shooting a WP is like trying to do brain surgery with 3D glasses on after 15 jack and cokes. Ask me how I know. Sorry, I never open my mouth like this, but I always tell it how it is.

Moespeeds, I just want to say I appreciate you telling it like it is. Nobody can doubt your abilities. It sounds like when the time comes (hopefully never), I'll just have to plan on starting in the morning and ending in the afternoon (assuming I remember where I stored the WP kit). If I remember, I'll time myself since I have never done a WP install just for info.

Again, Thanks for being honest.

You know me, ALWAYS something negative to say... always!
I would not say that it is always, for I am sure that you have many positive things to say and have helped many, that said though it does seem if something negative is said towards your info, they do have a unusall habbit of disappearing or being deleted.

So since my other post magically disappeared, I will say it again

"Anyway good luck selling your stuff, but you can forget me buying anything from you if your mode of buisness is to insult people that may take a different route than what you are selling and to put down another product, that I suspect you have very little real experience with."

Nonetheless glad you have helped many get their bikes up and running again.
