I just received some news from a second source today that BDM has closed it's doors... still haven't heard anything from BDM announcing it, and it's probably not on the top of their "to do" list, but the pieces are seemingly falling in place. I don't rely on either source 100%, but to hear from both in a span of 3 days, totally out of the blue, has led me the believe that BDM is done as we know them now. I'm not a businessman so I don't know what options they have to regroup, if any... but I hope this isn't the last of a company we all know and love.

I'm hoping my sources are wrong....

And just so you know, Big Dog Biker isn't going anywhere... we'll still be here to support our beloved motorcycles. :2thumbs:

Wow! I visited the plant back in late Jan and they had only 8-12 folks working and everyone else was laid off...a couple of mechanics, painters, customer service reps, and warehouse attendants...They had a Ton of Parts to build new bikes in their warehouse,...They told me, if they had 30 or more orders, then would bring back the workers...Why would they produce the K-9 250 if they were going to fold? I hope they can survive...

Thanks for that information Tim. I noticed the dealer close to us had dropped the prices quite a bit the last time I was over there on the K-9 with the 250 back tire. They didn't have to many dogs in the showroom like they used too either like they aren't selling as well as maybe before the economy tanked. Everyone is feeling the crunch too.
But I know we all appreciate the news the forum is going to stay up and running so when we have issues we can get back on the highways and country roads for me.

Thanks again,
Ray

This is not a good news today. I was hoping BDM would make it through the down turn. I've only had one issue with the bike at the end of my warranty and BDM stood up and took care of it.
On the bright side we have this forum to help in locating parts and help in any repairs.

Big Dog Motorcycles lays off more workers

The Wichita Eagle

Big Dog Motorcycles has had another round of layoffs.
The company cut 10 production workers and now has 22 employees, company president Mike Simmons said today.
He said the company hasn't made any motorcycles since last year and is now filling orders for parts and other supplies.
He deferred any comment about the company's status to owner Sheldon Colman, who couldn't be immediately reached today

I was really hoping BDM would be able to weather the storm.... with new models out for 2011 i thought it was promissing. I figured there would be low output, but at least they could make it.... i guess sooner or later i'll end up having to switch out all my controls, etc for more "standard" HD stuff to keep'er running....

We all could see this was in the works for a few years now. How many times have we called to get parts for our bikes and couldn't get anything.

This could be a good thing for us owners. Bikes could become collector classics in the long run. Sort of like the old Indians, BSA's, etc

What number did you call? I was not able to get an answer.

The Receptionist answered and laughed stating she's been getting a lot of calls and she would have been the first to know if it was closing in days...Who knows, she could have been paid to say that...:D

If they are contacting their vendors like the article said, Strokers should know the truth by now. Maybe Lena will post some thing.

If this is true it's a real bummer for a guy with the vision and the BALLS to step out and go for it!!!!! I'm sure to a guy like Sheldon this is a small set back in life and you will see his passion again. I know personally going from my cookie cutter HD I would never trade back the BDM to me is not a fad or fashion statement it is a true statement of an individual personality the only thing I am thankful for is
i got one !!!!!!!:flag:
