since S&S motors are like the old 80" hd's when you drain the tank you can half fill the tank and with the oil filter off start the bike and pump out the motor sump for more complete change.....not for the faint of heart...please check with S&S ahead of time...works for me...also try a couple onces of prolong trany fluid with your tranny change and feel the difference

Here is another one that does the same as Rogue but allot cheaper. Called the CORS (contaminated oil removal system).
What's New Here? : DiamondCommerce I have one and have used it numerous time with no issues.

GasMan,
Yes it does. All you do is take the old seal from the filter, install it into the groove of the tool, spin it on, hook up the hose and go to town. Much like the Rouge but cheaper and also the hose fits pretty good on the barb without all the leakage or need for a clamp. At least that was how it worked out for me.

All I did was to change oil in tank. Fill with new (Mobil 1). Remove filter and place oil pan under bike where the oil filter is located. Start the bike and it kinda just slowly (no squirt) just pumped out unil it ran clean. Install new filter. Add oil to tank, start motor to fill filter, and then recheck level. No Scavenger or CORS required. I did put some paper towels around the engine mount at the fromt of the frame to catch any excess oil that did not go into the oil pan. Not a mess at all. However, I will probably get a CORS before next change. |

The difference evans is the lack of oil pressure without something in place of the oil filter.

I cant see how an open hose into a drain pain, which is all either system is provides an oil pressure. And if I am not mistaken, the only purpose of oil pressure is to push it back to the oil tank from the oil filter anyway. I could be wrong!

Pressure is directly related to resistance to flow. If you have a more restricted flow the pressure will go up. Thus no filter will have less resisdence to flow than even a hose and thus less pressure.
That said the oil pressure purpose is not to just move oil from tank to filter and back, the pressure is also insure that the proper amount is flowing to the bearing, rockers, push rods as well as have sufficent flow to allow for proper cooling of the pistons and cylinders. Our engines do not require a great deal of pressue, but they do require pressure nonetheless. As the RPM come up it requires even more, so see like 10 PIS at idle in not that unusal, but if you were to see 10 PSI at 3000 RPM, there is a problem. As far as scavenging oil systems, be it Rouge, CORS, or open flow and a drip pan, the reason is to just remove as much dirty oil before topping it off with new oil. Does it make that much difference, not sure but it will not hurt. So for the price of half a quart of oil, a few rags to wipe down the leakage and maybe $20-50 for a easy tool, minor IMHO compared to the possible benifit of getting the most out of engine that list for close to $9,000 list.

This is a good thread... I had never thought about this till I bought this bike but Harleys "evos" are the same way right? When doing this all your doing is catching the oil going back to the tank so no worrys to hurting the motor as LONG AS THERES OIL IN THE TANK . If you were to run the oil out of the tank then and only then would you be hurting the motor.
What's this "also try a couple onces of prolong trany fluid with your tranny change and feel the difference"??? |

I got the CORS one too - used it on the dog and the heritage - still got in a mess though. Maybe next time I will do as Fiber says and put the seal from the filter into it!!!
