Couldn't a short on the secondary side of the EHC cause it to flicker as described and shut down?? Could be something pinched under the tank or handlebar?

the thing that gets me and im no electrical wizard,he says everything was good until the battery post broke so why a short under the tank or handle bar control?thats why your needed here dead

With PLC, microprocessors, and what not there all kinds of issues that can be caused by small short circuits. A good mocroprocessor board will have some sort of overload/short circuit protection built in. EHC's have protection built in. If that protection doesn't function well or lets a small short exist without shutdown it could get back into the battery through the EHC. When one discusses repairing an EHC which we here believe cannot be done we lean more towards correcting the problem that created the problem. If he has a short circuit that causes the EHC to shut down if caught in time he may indeed save the EHC. Keep in mind as boards have problems the components that make them work they slowly start to become damaged.
His EHC could very easily be burnt from voltage drops and spikes. But those voltage drops and spikes came form somewhere. To burn a battery post off it wouild most likely be caused by the largest load. And the largest load on your Big Dog is what?? The starter motor. Most here have pointed to the VR. It could be that, but some have ruled it out. However if it was the culprit it could have damaged the EHC to the point of no return.
One thing that bothered me about changing the battery on my 05 ridgeback is the battery had one corner ground off and the seat sits atop the battery terminals. Not a good scenario at all. Thus nothing will surprise me with electrical problems in regards to our dogs. This simple fact could be the culprit here.
I have learned a whole lot from everyone of you here. I appreciate this site and the owners that run it as many of us would be scared to death to touch some of this stuf without everyone here.
I still think that if I had a battery terminal burnt off I would dig through the entire electrical system as it could be more than one problem causing it and then it simply could be the positioning of his throne.

Thanks again for all the support and help, but Throttle Jockey, the post was not burnt off but broken off, it did not have burn marks on it. I am confident that the cheap batter and metal post had the screw too long and due to vibration or bump, it snapped off and shorted.

I will hopefully find out some news soon.

Will keep you updated on final outcome.

Just giving an update, the mechanic has been out of town for two weeks, still hasnt looked at the bike as of today. Hopefully he will return tuesday. weather is starting to warm up and ready to ride.
