Cost for Custom Paint
I have a beautiful paint job on my K9, but apparently the clear coat on my tank was not applied right and I am starting to get bubbles and odd runs. I am getting a patch job to make it look good for now. The quote I received for a full custom paint job (almost exactly like the current one) is $3000.00, not including the work to take the tank back down to the metal. Can anyone tell me if that quote is about right, seems high to me. Airbrushing is cool, but not all the complicated.

Former owner of my bike is also a good friend. I was blown away when he showed me the bill for the custom paint! $4500 out the door. I made so much fun of him for spending that kinda dough...and now, a few years later, I enjoy the fruits of his spending.

I have a friend exceptionally good. His jobs are atleast 5,000 and up! He told me depending how complicated and the quality of paint the price goes up. He uses high end paint. If the guy is good 3 grand isnt a bad price

yeah, i dont think Ed has the ability to produce a bad paint job. if you follow his facebook posts, every job is an insight to the things that go on in his head at night which is when he does most of his work by the way. his h. r. giger inspired job for a member on here was insane.

I can tell you the pic below is of some simple graphics I had added to my tank this winter along with similar graphics for the front fender and rear fender.
![]() It ran me $900, but you can't feel the slightest difference in the paint where the blue is from the black tribal stripe. It was expensive, yes, but the work was pretty much flawless. The $3000 will likely be just as worthwhile if the guy has a good rep.

Quality materials are much more expensive than most people realize.
Striping, prepping and painting is more time consuming than you might think. Art takes time and skill. Proper sanding and buffing is also labor intensive. If you ask a reputable painter to break down what parts take how much time and how much materials cost you will see why the cost is what it is. These guys are not hitting home runs on these jobs. Once you realize what they are making per hour it makes sence. Hope this helps.

What we've all heard a 1,000 times - "You get what you pay for".......and the way my father used to explain it to me "You buy shit, you get shit". Damn, I miss him.

$3000? It just depends on the detail/scheme/difficulty of what you want painted. For a base color with a few tribal stripes, it's pretty high. When you throw in skulls, clowns, lions, snakes, naked women and all the such, it's pretty much ball park price.

Thanks guys! We were just curious, we really like the guy who is doing the "touch up" and just didn't even bother to check around, after seeing his work. Just curious mainly, since we never got any other quotes!

After reading this, I think I got a great deal, I paid 2K for the paint and powder coating included. he got the powder coating done at his cost. The paint he used was 700.00. originally he quoted me 2500.00 but worked with me on the price.
