Oil leaking and a strange sound
I was riding home is SOuthtexas last night when I heard a scraping sound that kind of sounded like it was coming from the primary (maybe). Anyway, when I stopped there was oil on the swingarm, plate holder, and rear rim. I'm not sure if it's something minor that a want-to-be like me can handle or something for a professional. Any ideas?

Donny - not sure if this applies to the 2003 models, but the 2004 Prostreets have the oil drain tube zip-tied to the frame. If that breaks loose (or someone forgets to zip-tie it down), it could come in contact with the rear drive belt and work a hole into the tube causing an oil leak -- this could explain what you saw.
Yep- this happened to me and was one of several reasons I do my own wrenching now.... |

I can bet that he has the same setup as us. Check your oil drain hose and plug. It runs down from your oil tank.

Mine came with a rubber coated steal clamp that holds the oil dran hose. Its bolted to the frame cross member by the trans. No zip tie here.

I appreciate all of the comments guys. It was the inner primary seal. I had it replaced and did some spring upgrades and fluid changes at the same time. Ran like a jewel on the way home.

Glad you got it fixed Donny, but isn't Beaumont, Texas in East Texas. Just wondering if the Globe tilted to the right 90 degrees. If it did shit that puts me in West Texas
Carlos South Texas

It's about as far east as you can go other then Orange but in that area it's also as far south as you can go just about other then Pt Arthur so the Golden Triangle is considered Southeast Texas.
Tomorow we'll discuss the geogrophy and history of the Texas panhandle... |
