I live in St. Louis area and bought one off of the e-bay. It was in SC. Went to uship.com and had some antique dealer who was in the area pick the bike up and transport itfor me. Had it within a week and cast between 350 and 400 to have it shipped. At the time the bike was a good deal at 16500.

Do your homework ....I have bought two Harleys off the net ... if possable go and look at it ... If not call the lister and get some info VIN# and such have it checked out and also the seller to see if its on the up and up . It helps if you have friends in law inforcement . Also look at the feedback it helps weed out the riff raff . Good luck !!

Lot's of good deals on ebay. You just have to be savy to the ones that look to good to be true and do your research.

I bought mine off of ebay but it was from a BD dealer. Paid 600 to have it shipped from Ohio to Texas. I have sold and bought many items off of ebay. It's really fun.

well said. i bought mine off ebay but i did my research and looked at the bikes i was really serious about. it is worth the travel or having someone you know actually look at the bike. i have seen some abused dogs that i would not want to own.
whenever possible, you should try to meet or at least talk to the owner of the bike. there are some sorry shits out there and that might be an indication of how the bike was treated.
when i finally settled on my bike, it was clean as a pin, had warranty left and the owner was a good guy (from down richmond virginia way where scuba lives).
if you are considering a bike far away, you might check to see if a forum member lives near by. there are many really good folks around here who would be delighted to help you out.
good luck and be careful out there, chuck

Just buy it already. Git er done. Walk the walk. I personally would have to touch the bike before I handed the cash over.

It's hit or miss.

I bought my black 05 RB off of ebay for $13,000 a year ago. Now I'm wishing I didn't sell it. Everything was just as expected. Great guy in the Army that was just about to head to Iraq.

Just picked up a Redneck Mutant in Asheville. This guy was very upfront and a pleasure to deal with.

On the other hand, I picked up a bobber about a month ago that was listed as excellent condition. It would not start when I got there and had a spray can paint job done to the frame after the motor was installed . We renegotiated the price on that one to what I though was fair.

The worst was when I flew from NC to MD about 2 years ago to drive another Ridgeback home. I talking to the guy for over an hour and was very explicit on the condition. When I got there, he picked me up from the airport and we went to his business. As soon as I got there it was obvious that the bike had been down and fixed. I lost my shit when I confronted him on it and he told me to get the f*** out of his shop. It didn't turn out pretty when I took his keys and told him I was driving myself back to the airport in his Hummer with or without him. He didn't say a word the whole way....That MD trip cost me about $700 in last min plane tickets that I was out.

Either way, ask as many questions as you can and reiterate the important one's. I would NEVER pay for a bike and have it shipped without viewing it or having someone I know look at the bike 1st. That's just me but for that sum of money it's worth the plane ticket.

By the way, if anyone ever needs a bike looked at in NC or SC, let me know.

Ifound my bike on on bay but I drove to look at it and after the auction ended purchased it. If its a great deal then it may be worth a road trip or plane ticket, thats just too much money for me to buy sight unseen.

I bought mine off ebay, but it was close enough to drive and check it out. Turned out to be a great bike and great deal. I have since bought 3 trucks off ebay without getting burned yet. Maybe just lucky?

Well i can't add any more advise than has already been said.. all very good responses so i can only give you my experience...

Found mine on e-bay after a lot of looking and deciding on exactly what i wanted which sounds like were you are now
The Bike did not sell and after i sold a car on e-bay 3 weeks or so later i e-mailed him to ask if it was available.. Got the Vin from him and checked the history with a dealer and called BDM direct. called back and told him i would drive down to Nashville to pick it up on the following Saturday...
"Don't you want to talk price" he said... Nope if it was as nice as it looked and checked out to be I'll take it. Got his payoff $$ from his bank and drove down with a check to his bank and $$$.. While all the time being aware if it wasn't as i wanted it i would not bring it home...
Bike was as listed and the guy was very nice... And I'll say it again The best purchase i ever made..

I purcheased my 2003 pit on ebay in 06 and I love it. If you can't make it out to the bike or have someone close check it out for you, look into a 3rd party purchase offered thru ebay. The 3rd party company holds the purchase price during shipment and you have 48 hrs to approve the purchase upon arrival. This worked great for me as the bike was in Maine and I live in New orleans. Of course I did not know about this site at that time, so first let us know the location and see if someone would take a look at it.
