so i'm not using the crank sensor on the install so why keep it. Its ugly! But you can't find a crank sensor plug even though S&S ships the motors with it in. So I figured out that the tranny speedo sensor is the same size. I put that speedo sensor in the crank sensor hole and it fit. BAM! So I had Nelson order me a speedo sensor plug from Drag and it looks GREAT!!!! Thanks TX... that is so true and without the wiring it wouldn't run!!

Today just wasn't meant to be a day to get alot done. Not sure why the cards were dealt that way but they were.
I got the rear master cylinder rebuilt. Reason being, I purchased the forward controls off ebay. Don't know the "true" history on them so I rebuilt the rear master. No biggie! Pull the rubber plunger and rod ![]() Remove the snap ring and WATCH OUT!! It will spray, spit, and fling things at you when it comes out!!! I got DOT 5 to the eye! ![]() What all comes out of there ![]() Clean out the thing really well ![]() This is how it all goes back in. The push rod would go back thru the finally rubber piece ![]() ![]() ![]() Compress the spring and put the snap ring back in (install the snap ring SUCKS) but BAM you're done ![]() Re-assemble the rest of the control again ![]() With that complete I got ready to mount it to the bike. Got the baggy for the job. ![]() Some red loctite and BAM its back on the bike ![]() ![]() ![]() Install the brake line with new copper washers ![]() ![]() ![]() But I did also compress everything down to one table. Tomry will be, taking more measurements on the front wheel spacers and sending them out to get lathed down to the correct size. Also, wire up the ignition, key, and coils.

Well got some good measurements on the front end today with Al Hall, who is going to lathe down the spacers to the proper fit.
Then we fished some of the ignition wires thru the back bone and get them ready for wiring. Ran the wiring from the corner of the battery tray and up the backbone. Zipped tied all out of the way. ![]() Out the back bone comes the coil hot and ignition wires ![]() Then I took a olhm meter to the new key switch to check wires, then added some connectors to the end to mate up with the key wires I also put different connectors on. Key ![]() bike wiring went from these bdm pins ![]() to these to mate up with the key switch ![]() Make a jumper wire for the coil to coil connection ![]() Then add on connecotrs to the ignition wires that will plug into the coils ![]() All done here ready for key, motor, and coil mounts ![]() A super short day today, cause running out of things to do as I wait on more parts from various F'ups that were out of my control as I have elude before about ![]() ![]() ![]() As you can see, I was able to ditch the other table, which is a good sign for sure. ![]() The current one table setup is still packed ![]() ![]() ![]() Not a whole lot of things to do. Mostly buttoning up some things. and then of coarse trying to see if the electronics will work then "FIRE IT UP!"

I need it Wood. I am getting a bit nervous now that its getting close...
I know that as soon as I get the motor mount back and can mount the coils, I'm going to put the battery in and connect it to see if at least the wiring holds up. I will say this... BDM don't have JACK on me with my zip tieing everything out of the way.

gas, great job and how to....think that has been said before.....but, as much care and length that you went with all the other wiring, why arnt the key and coil wires soldered and heatshrunk???? they are exposed a bit more than the other wires. just a question i had. again, thanks for what you have posted so far....looks great!!!

That is a good point Chuck. However, I don't believe any of the wires on the whole bike are soldered. I will probably heatshrink them when it comes time to install them. Right now I was just getting everything as ready as I can.
Not too mention I SUCK at soildering.

Gas,
If you need in the future, I can get you connectors that have solder and heatshrink, or just heatshrink built into them...makes a very clean and unbelievably strong connection. When done properly, you will break the wire before you rip it out of these solder/ heatshrink connectors...water tight and strong. These are required for OEM auto wiring harness repairs. |
